How does Genie loan work?
Getting a loan with Genie is a little bit different to the other online loan apps. But first as any other online loan provider, you need to download the Genie app. Once the app is installed, itβs a matter of following the steps one by one. Genie has an in-app loan calculator to help you understand the interest rates, loan terms and the repayment amounts. Once you decide on a suitable loan amount, simply apply for the Genie loan and wait for the approval.
Genie provides loans based on your credit eligibility, a pre-assigned value which you can view in the Genie app. You can choose any amount between the minimum and maximum values assigned to you. Once your Genie loan is approved, you will receive a complimentary Dialog Finance Savings account to receive your loan and to make the future repayments, making the entire process much easier.
How can I apply for a loan with Genie?
Applying for a loan with Genie requires you to complete a few steps. Letβs go through each step one by one.

What are the Genie Loan Requirements?
To be eligible for a Genie loan, there are a few things you need to fulfill. Letβs look at the list of requirements.
- Must have a National Identification Card (NIC)
- Proof of billing (Only if the address is different from NIC)
- A selfie (A photograph of yourself taken by you)
- A completed online application
- A guarantor (will be verified before the loan approval)
In addition to the above requirements you need to have a good relationship with Dialog as the approval of the loan may be based on it.
Also please note that your loan performance will be reported to the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB).
How much does Genie loan?
As explained in the beginning, Genie provides loans based on your credit eligibility, a pre-assigned value which you can view in the Genie app. This is determined based on the relationship you have had with Dialog. You can choose any amount between the minimum and maximum values assigned to you and these details can be easily viewed in the Genie app under quick loans.
With Genie you can get a short term loan for up to 3 months. You can view the minimum and maximum tenures assigned to you in the app. If you decide to settle the loan before that, you can easily do that via the Genie app and no penalty fees will be charged for settling the loan early.
Itβs always encouraged to settle your Genie loan within the agreed period of time or even before that to avoid additional charges.
How to pay my Genie loan?
Itβs quite easy to repay your Genie loan. You can do this simply via the Dialog Finance Savings account. All you need to do is make sure your DFS account has enough credits and Dialog will automatically deduct the amount at the end of the loan repayment period.
You can also settle the Genie loan in full at any given time before the agreed day by simply adding enough credits to your Dialog Finance Savings account and selecting the full loan settlement option in the Genie app. You will not be charged any additional fees for early settlements of the loan and the interest will be charged to the date you are settling the loan.
You can also settle your Genie loan in installments by adding credits to your DFS account and no service charges will be applied for it. Make a note that an additional 3% will be charged on the capital amount for late repayments. Therefore always make sure to settle your loan repayment either on time or before it to avoid any additional charges.

Yes, Genie is a legit brand under Dialog and is regulated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. So obtaining a loan from genie is completely secure, reliable and quick.

There are mixed reviews about the Genie app in both the Playstore and the Appstore, and the ratings are not quite good.
The most positive comment is about the service standards which included aspects like security, reliability and fast service. But at the same time. There are many negative reviews about the poor functionality of the app and it looks like these reviews have heavily affected the rating.
